Vinsobres at Sunset with Mont Ventoux in the background.
Our holiday house, or gite, in France is located in a small perched village called Vinsobres, located on the border of Drome and Vaucluse, in Provence in the South of France, with the French Alps on the doorstep.
This wonderful old stone house in Provence is situated in a beautiful part of Southern France, with a wide variety of things to do and see and provides the perfect location for a vacation rental. Views from the village take in rich lavender fields, grapevines, and the soft grey/green of the olive groves.
The house in Vinsobres can be fully rented as a 4 bedroom gite or partially rented as a 2 bedroom apartment with the bedrooms on separate floors to the kitchen and living rooms. All three floors have washrooms.
When we are in residence the 2 bedroom apartment is available as a Chambre d'Hote (bed and breakfast).
Nyons, one of the best of the larger villages in Provence, is only 8 kilometres away at the foot of the French Alps. Nyons has a very lively market every Thursday throughout the year, as well as many restaurants and old stone architecture dating back to times of Roman influence. See the Nyons Tourist website for more information.
There are too many wineries to count in the area, however Vinsobres is rated as one of the best wine producing villages in the region. Apart from wine there are many other delicacies to sample, such as the famous Nyons' olives and oils, lavender, apricots, honey and nougat. You certainly won't run out of places to visit or things to see and do.
Vaison la Romaine is only 15 minutes southwest with a well preserved ancient part of the village and recently discovered Roman ruins (and a fantastic market every Tuesday).
Grignon with it's superb castle, which was the centre of power for the region until the French Revolution, is 20 minutes to the west.
North and east from Nyons are the scenic gorges and then the beginning of the stunning French Alps with great skiing in winter, hiking in summer and breathtaking scenery. For more information about the region, see the Nyons Tourist Bureau. www.paysdenyons.com
Marseilles and the Cote d' Azur are about and hour and a half drive south and Avignon is about 50 minutes south.
